Grade Parents
As one of the largest Jewish day schools in Canada, Bialik provides the opportunity for our children to grow in a nurturing and loving environment.The administration, teachers and support staff all work tirelessly to provide for our children's academic, intellectual and emotional needs so that each child feels part of the family we call Bialik.
Disseminating information to families and providing added support to our amazing teachers falls within the scope of the PTA's Gradeparent Program.
Gradeparents play a vital role in the Bialik family; being a gradeparent gives you an opportunity to meet the other parents in your child's class by participating more actively in the goings-on of each class. As a Gradeparent, you can: participate in holiday programs by helping at events such as the class model Seder, arrange the refreshments for special class events, recruit volunteers for class trips, and more. Gradeparents also act as a liaison between the school and the parents to transmit information and/or to solicit help for special projects. If you have never volunteered in the school before, this is a great way to get involved!
At the end of each year, parents are asked to volunteer for the role of gradeparent for their child's class in the following year. Once class placement is finalized, three parents are selected as the gradeparents for the class. Of these, one parent is selected 'Head Gradeparent'.
Gradeparents are the teacher's main contact with the parent body over the course of the year. Each class list is divided among these three parents, and information flows from the school to gradeparents and then on to the rest of the school parents.
Being a gradeparent is rewarding and informative, and does not require an inordinate time commitment. It shows your children your commitment to their education and to our school. We look forward to seeing your name on one of our lists soon!
